Project Resource Management

  • Processes to identify, acquire, and manage the resources required for the project
  • The project manager must be the leader of the project team
    • Motivating team members, and ensure they all contribute
    • Develop team skills
    • Ensure that team members follow ethical behavior
    • Improve Emotional Intelligence
    • Self-Organizing Team
      • Used in Agile projects, especially IT projects
      • The team will not have a central control
      • The project manager provides the team with a productive environment
      • Each team member is a specialist, capable of adapting to their environment
    • Virtual Team
      • The team members can be spread out geographically
      • Can use technology (video conferencing, e-mail, etc.) to communicate
      • Advantage is that people who work from home or are disabled can join the team.  Experts who would are located far away can also contribute.
      • Disadvantage is that the team members may have time zone differences, cultural differences, feel isolated, or have a difficulty sharing their experience without meeting face-to-face
  • Physical resources
    • Maintaining the correct inventory level of required materials & equipment
      • Can use Just-In-Time (JIT), Kaizen, or other methods
    • Ensuring that materials & equipment are of the correct quality
    • Predict supply and demand of physical resources
